What to expect at the new patient consultation…
“New Patient” Consultation:
First, we do ask all New Patients to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment. This time is needed for completing the registration and check-in process, before meeting with the Physician.
During your visit, you can expect that your questionnaire and prior medical records (if our office received records), have been reviewed, and the physician prepared to discuss your issues and answer any questions you’ve noted. Your new patient consultation will include a discussion of your medical history, any allergies and medications you are (or have been) taking, along with any lifestyle issues (i.e. smoking, nutrition, etc.), your menstrual and pregnancy history, prior hospitalizations and/or surgeries, and prior fertility testing and/or treatment. Based on this information, you and your physician will discuss any recommended testing, as well as the potential treatment options, best suited for meeting your individual treatment goals.
We understand your time is valuable, and our goal is to make the most of each visit. We do suggest planning for a minimum of 90 minutes for your New Patient Consultation (more in some cases). Keep in mind, much of this time is spent face-to-face with your physician, but additional time may be required for having your blood drawn and/or a pelvic ultrasound performed. Our staff will explain all recommended tests or procedures, as well as when to expect results.
During the New Patient Consultation, you will meet several members of your care team, including your physician, a clinical assistant, an administrative assistant, and a financial counselor. Administrative staff are here to assist with medical record requests, appointment scheduling, and other non-clinical questions. Our insurance department will attempt to verify/confirm your insurance benefits and coverage prior to your initial visit, and email you a copy of the information. A financial counselor will be available to review your insurance benefits and provide cost information for the tests and/or treatment option(s) you have discussed with your physician.
Our goal is to answer your questions, while providing a path that supports your medical and emotional interests. Most patients leave their new patient visit with a plan of treatment, while others leave with a strategy for completing the test(s) required to get the answers needed to develop a treatment plan at their next consultation. In either case, you should leave our office feeling cared for and clear on your next steps, as well as who to contact with any questions.
